A Baking Trigger -- An introduction to Appltart!

So, over the last few months I've discovered that I really enjoy this thing called baking. I used to like it a lot when I was younger but one or two failed cookie recipes really seemed to discourage me. I am glad I got over that though!

It took chocolate crinkle cookies to get me out of my anti-baking funk. Every Christmas when I was little my mom would make huge platters of cookies for all of the neighbors. She made chocolate chip, peanut butter, those cookies with the chocolate kisses in them, oatmeal raisin, and various others, but my all time favorite was the chocolate crinkle cookie. The not-too-sweet chocolatey inside paired with the light baked on dusting of powered sugar on the outside was perfect to me. Turns out, it still is!

I had been looking for a recipe for these cookies for the better part of a year (it took quite some time because neither me nor my mom could remember the name of the cookie.) But then I found it, and I found a couple different versions of it. The biggest difference in the recipes was that some wanted cocoa while others wanted melted chocolate. I gave my mom a call to see what she could remember of the recipe and much to my luck she remembered that they were made with the cocoa and not melted chocolate.

Step one down! I had found my recipe. Step two was to buy up all of the ingredients -- which was happily painless -- and step three was to bake them! I am lucky to have a small little kitchen in my college apartment but it only has a small seemingly half sized oven. And the batter calls for putting it in the freezer to set up for a little bit which was a bit of a challenge seeing as our freezer was stuffed full, but I figured that putting some of the stuff (mainly my roommates liquor) in the fridge for a little bit wouldn't hurt.

Step four is the best step of them all. Taking the cookies out of the oven and waiting just until they were cool enough to touch to taste test them. And it was wonderful! They tasted just how I remembered them! Sweet but still with a nice chocolate bite. It was great. I don't have any pictures right now, but I'm going to make up another batch in the coming days so I'll have some soon! I will also post up a link to the recipe later today!

Enjoy!
